During a recent trip to the Tate Modern I had fortune to watch a show reel by Californian artist Kara Walker. Her work often uses shadow puppets, some times as a puppet performance, sometimes as animation, and touches on the topics of race and gender in America in both modern times and during the era of black slavery.
